{DIY Kids} DIY Smashing Rocks

7:00 am

What kid doesn't love the chance to smash, break and crack something!?

These easy to make, baked cotton ball rocks give kids the perfect excuse AND, create lots of imaginative ideas of just how smash these bad boys open. I'm sure the older your kids are, the more imaginative ways they will find and create!

To start, preheat your oven to 180c (350f)
  • Line a baking tray
  • Into a bowl combine your flour and water and whisk until smooth
  • Next, divide the mixture up into smaller bowls. As many bowls are you wish to have colours
  • Add a generous amount of food colouring to each portion and mix through well
  • Using two utensils, throughly coat your cotton balls and place these onto a lined tray
  • Place your tray into the oven for around 45 minutes until the outer shell has completely hardened or until the tops start to brown
  • While they're cooking, you can even gets the kids to help with the washing up, they'll love the colours in the water that the food colouring creates!
  • Turn the oven off and leave the rocks in the oven to cool and further harden
  • Out of the oven there's only one thing to do.... SMASH THEM! I'm sure the older your kids are, the more eventide they will be in how they go about this!
The hard outer shell will crack exposing the stringy cotton wool within.
* I do recommend smashing these outside and just a fair warning that if your imaginative ways of cracking these bad boys open includes water in any way, the colour will run!

Have fun parents!
